When the January transfer window opened, Alexis Sanchez looked like a stone cold certainty to link up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
However, last week Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United hijacked the deal and suddenly, the Chilean was destined to be unveiled at Old Trafford.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan included in Manchester United’s offer for the Arsenal star, it was said that Arsene Wenger was far keener to do business with the Red Devils than Guardiola’s City. However, with the Armenian apparently unsure of his feelings regarding a move to the Emirates, the deal took far longer to conclude than most expected.
The uncertainty has now seemingly dissipated however with the Independent announcing that both deals will be announced on Friday afternoon.
Alexis Sanchez is set to become a Manchester United player within hours after finally agreeing a deal that will see him paid as much as £14m per year. The deal will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan head the other way after he too agreed personal terms with the Gunners. – Independent
Whether the deals can be done in time for the players to be included in this weekend’s Premier League fixtures remains to be seen. However, whether the players tog out in their new kits this weekend or next, there will surely be unanimous relief among both Arsenal and Manchester United fans as this saga finally draws to a close.
