Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly set to demand a significant rise on his weekly wages upon Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at Old Trafford. The Chile international is due to join the Red Devils this week, where he will become the Premier League’s highest-earner with wages of around £400,000-a-week.
According to The Mirror, Pogba is expected to push for a significant rise on his current salary with agent Mino Raiola likely to place the Frenchman’s demands to the club’s hierarchy. The midfielder saw his salary hiked from £167,000 to £200,000-a-week earlier in the summer after United’s progress to the Champions League, but he is now said to want a package on par with Sanchez.
Pogba has shown vast improvement in his game since he arrived at Old Trafford last summer, and with him in the side, Manchester United are unbeaten for an impressive 36 matches, though they are more than a few draws in this streak.
Certainly, the 24-year-old deserves a wage hike, given his ability to potentially lead the side in the long-term, but this move could have a negative effect through the squad as it may unsettle several other players.
Arch-rivals Manchester City appear to have bowed out of the hunt for Sanchez in order to avoid a similar circumstance, and one would hope that Sanchez’s wages do not ruin the club’s wage structure whereby every first-team regular may demand an increase.
