Manchester United are close to unveiling their second signing of the January window after agreeing to pay a £35million exit fee, while Gareth Bale has snubbed a surprise move from Real Madrid this month after an £86m bid was lodged, according to Thursday’s European papers.
MANCHESTER UNITED ON BRINK OF SERI CAPTURE
Manchester United have agreed to meet the £35million asking price in Jean-Michel Seri’s contract – with the player’s signing due to be announced in days, according to multiple reports.
The Nice star has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 and came close to a move to Barcelona over the summer, while Liverpool also have a long-standing interest in the player until they landed Naby Keita.
But Jose Mourinho is ready to push ahead with a move for Seri after United’s money men gave him permission to spend again following this week’s capture of Alexis Sanchez.
United are set to lose Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini this summer and see the 26-year-old as an ideal solution in midfield.
United also had an interest in Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, but he appears destined for Manchester City with Pep Guardiola’s side likely to sign him before the January window shuts, but with the transfer expected to go through in the summer.
